Huddy Shines: “Welcome Back”

April 7, 2009

As Fox & Friends co-anchor Gretchen Carlson vacationed again today, the jaunty Juliet Huddy returned as guest host in fine form.  It was the smart, saucy lass’ second appearance since her FOX Morning Show with Mike and Juliet was not renewed. The former F&F Weekend co-host seemed right at home on F&F’s curvy couch.

As usual, Juliet exhibited a remarkable rapport with her co-hosts, correspondents, and audience. Co-anchor Brian Kilmeade was touchy-feely with her as he tested and complimented her knee reflexes and co-host Jayhawk Steve Doocy could not seem to get enough of her fun, flirty banter even as the camera panned away. Reporter Major Garrett revelled in his fellow University of Missouri Tiger’s appearance on F&F and Mike Emanuel gave her a hearty “welcome back to cable!” As to the audience, she was indeed welcome: A delightful reminder of the the devil-may-care attitude of Fox & Friends at its best.

After a protracted period of personnel misfires by FNC’s SVP of Programming Bill Shine, he seems to be finally getting it right. E.g., he kick started a faltering F&F Weekend by bringing veteran Alisyn Camerota back. And, now he is rejuvenating F&F by bringing back another star, Juliet Huddy, as guest host, at least. Good job, Bill!

Carlson’s Chutzpah

February 9, 2009

Today of all days, Fox & Friends co-anchor Gretchen Carlson had the gall to joke to her F&F colleague and fellow weasel Brain Kilmeade that he would only see “He’s Just Not That Into You” if he “lost a bet with somebody.”  On the very first day of the NFL off-season (the Monday after the Pro Bowl), Gretch reminded F&F viewers of the lost double-down Eagles/Giants playoff bet that she and Brian made with F&F Weekend co-host Clayton Morris and their failure to honor it.

Apparently, F&F Weekend co-anchor Dave Briggs was “right on the money” Super Bowl Sunday when he said that Brian was a “welcher” and that he would do anything to get out of a bet. Dave made his assertion after Brian got his pal PA guv Ed Rendell to sign an “executive memo” purporting to absolve Brian and Gretch of their obligation to pay up. Even though to Rendell Gretch had said, “I still might have to do the fight song,” it appears that she has decided to dodge her duty, too.

Until Fox & Friends co-hosts Gretchen Carlson and Brian Kilmeade finally don Eagle jerseys and sing the Eagle war anthem, the slogan of F&F should be the “Home of the Jayhawk and the Two Weasels.”

F&F: Home of the Birds & Weas(el)*

February 5, 2009

Fox & Friends co-anchor Brian Kilmeade inadvertently provided a new slogan for the show today: F&F: Home of the Birds and Weas(el). In an interview with Governor Ed Rendell, the Massapequa native continued to try to weasel out of his and fellow co-host Gretchen Carlson’s lost Giants/ Eagles wager with F&F Weekend co-anchor Clayton Morris. (Brian and Gretchen agreed to wear Eagle jerseys and sing the Eagle war anthem if the Eagles won). Brian shamelessly stated, “Governor Rendell gave me a special governor’s exemption: we no longer have to fulfill out bet with the Philadelphia Eagles fight song.”

Gretchen chimed, “I wanted to do that.” That was news to F&F fans since Gretch “double downed” with Brian to get out of her lost Vikings/Eagles bet. Nevertheless, at the end of the segment, Gretch said, “Governor Ed Rendell, thanks for taking Brian out of the Eagles thing: I still might have to do the fight song.”

Perhaps, Gretch would prefer to be a red fox rather than a red squirrel.

*Steve Doocy went to the University of Kansas (Jayhawks); Gretchen Carlson went to Stanford University (Cardinal); and Brian Kilmeade went “Welch.”
