F&F Fam Fun: “Sis” Lis Turns 1!

September 17, 2014

Has her bro Brian’s back. Sorry! Yesterday, Fox & Friends co-anchor Elisabeth Hasselbeck celebrated her first year anniversary on the cable news morning show juggernaut. The new queen of the curvy couch was feted by F&F producers with their fun take-off [vid] of MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This” vid and a even wetter redux of her fun physical hijinks initiation into the family [vid].*

As a proud new member of the family, Elisabeth had her co-host and “brother” Brian Kilmeade‘s back. In an interview with Joel Keller of Parade, she was asked, “When you talk for three hours a day, you may end up saying stuff that people might turn their eyebrows up at: this happened to Brian the other day with the Ray Rice elevator video, when he joked that the lesson is to take the stairs.” Instead of addressing Brian’s inane, insensitive jest directly, Elisabeth answered, “I was not there that day. I can say that Brian Kilmeade and [their fellow co-anchor] Steve Doocy are two of the most honorable men that I know….[T]hose two men are credible husbands, extraordinary fathers, and they are two of the greatest friends that I have been able to make.”

Sounding like Brian’s bumptious non-apology apology for his callous callow joke, Elisabeth continued, “I don’t want to get off track or distracted. I think it’s quite easy to do that in with Ray Rice, but to be very clear, the most offensive thing about anything that’s going on with Ray Rice is what occurred in that elevator [TMZ vid]]. Bottom line.”

Bottom line, Elizabeth, is that you are right as to “what occurred in that elevator” is “the most offensive thing about anything that’s going on with Ray Rice”: But, that does not excuse NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for his absurd initial two-week suspension of Rice for his apparent assault and battery of his then fiancee nor Brian for his callous quip re Rice’s fiancee.

As to F&F re Rice, unfortunately, Elton John was right: “Sorry seems to be the hardest word.”

[Author’s aside: Elisabeth often likens Brian and Steve to brothers: In fact, as the show opened yesterday memorial Lis’ first year, she cooed, “You guys treat me like a sister.”]

Kiran: Sexy Coed Fun?

March 1, 2010

“Far less PC”: Chetry’s joie de vivre contagious. During American Morning co-host Kiran Chetry’s “cat walk” headline news segment today, she read a story on certain colleges trying to curb student (under 21) binge drinking by tattling to their coeds’ parents. As Kiran returned to the desk, guest co-anchor Christine Romans began the rote repetition of the dire consequences of such reckless actions by students. When she had finally finished, Kiran ducked her head, smiled impishly, and remarked, “I was going to say something far less PC–which is, my parents would have gotten [sic] so much mail.”*

Christine chuckled, “I take the clinical [route] and Kiran’s like ‘Whew!'” Riantly, Kiran replied, “Well. It’s great to have already gone through all of that before the age of cell phones and texting and photos, right? Facebook. We had some privacy as young kids. Right?” Sounding somewhat uncertain, Christine answered, “Yes, we did. I think we did.”

Subsequently, tossing to AM’s meteorologist, Christine haltingly commented, “It’s time for a check of the quick heather, weather, heather weadlines with. As Christine struggled to segue, Kiran guffawed and interposed, “Now I really messed her up.” After she had composed herself, Christine continued, “Yeah. Uh, Jacqui Jeras is in the Extreme Weather Center. Good morning, Jacqui! We’ll not talk about anything that happened at Iowa State, shall we!”

Quickly cluing in the AM audience, Kiran interjected, “Hey, you two [Jacqui and Christine] went to college together.” Laughing, Jacqui responded, “This is why Christine is flustered because she knows I have stories.” Then she added, “I’m going to have to agree with you [Kiran]….Thank goodness, no cell phones or Facebook at that time.”

Just what AM EP Jamie Kraft needs to inject into AM. Less elitist hauteur and affected gravitas and more Everyman humility and a propos levity. A very good start, Kiran!

[As an aside to Carpe Diem’s red-blooded AM viewers, these CNN beauties have their collegiate anonymity now. However, do not fully despair: Christine’s “fears” may yet be realized. Who knows? Perhaps, TMZ’s Harvey Levin will come to your rescue. Or, maybe, Gawker will (as AM’s weatherstud Rob Marciano once discovered).

Prejean Deposed: Gretch Relieved?

June 11, 2009

Another day, a hotter honey! Apparently, Miss USA owner Donald Trump really did think that the former 2009 Miss California Carrie Prejean’s topless pics were just “fine”.* According to TMZ.com, Prejean claimed that she rejected Miss California USA pageant attempts last month to have her pose for Playboy semi-nude: Pageant panjandrum Keith Lewis countered that he was not touting them but merely presenting them to her for her consideration.** Citing contractual breaches, the Miss California USA pageant deposed Prejean and replaced her with runner-up Miss Malibu Jamie Farrell.***

In essence, aping his Apprentice avatar, the Donald essentially has said, “You’re fired!” After chivalrously saving the Christian damsel in distress, has he now thrown her mercilessly to the lions for entertainment’s sake? Or was she a non-compliant diva that just had to go?**** Regardless of the answer, P.T. Barnum would be proud of his Manhattan mogul avatar.

N.B. Fox & Friends fans, only about two weeks ago, Trump strongly suggested that FNC’s Roger Ailes would hire Prejean and stated that she “look[ed] very, very good together” with co-anchors Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade on F&F. Now with his beauty queen’s ouster, he may have less to gain from the first 2009 Miss California USA’s replacing of 1989 Miss America Gretchen Carlson on the show.***** With her potential rival, Prejean “whatever,”****** apparently, on the outs, Gretch may be breathing a bit easier today.

UPDATE: The dethroned Miss California USA Carrie Prejean gave her first morning news interview to F&F. She received a sympathetic ear from both Fox & Friends co-anchors Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade. The other beauty queen on the set, Gretchen Carlson was conspicuously absent for that segment.
