Alina: AM’s “China Doll”?

October 29, 2009

American Morning guest co-host Alina Cho? Unbelievable. Truly! For some strange reason, the first generation daughter of Korean parents¬† seems to feel that she must look and be perfect–at all times.

Oft, in her appearance, she does not fall far from the mark with her sharp stiletto stilts and the rest of her haut couture habit. Of course, the notable exception is when she dangles her garish “ping-pong” necklaces around her neck like an albatross. Whereas fashion correspondent Lola Ogunnaike was AM’s “recessionista,” Alina is its Tiffany demoiselle.

In fact, during the segments with biz correspondent Christine Romans and co-host Kiran Chetry, one could almost hear the strains of David Bowie’s “China Girl.” In the first one, Christine kidded Alina about seeming to be a “nice white wine drinker.” In the second, Kiran teased her about her propensity to spend lavishly on herself. However, it was not her mien or garb that garnered the author’s attention this time: It was what she said.

As Christine’s second spot concluded, Alina asked, “Did California governor Arnold Swartzenegger slip a hidden and obscene message into his letter to state lawmakers?…There are seven lines in this note. And, if you’re good at those word-finder puzzles, you’re going to notice that the first letter in each line spells out ‘F,’ dash, dash, dash, Y-O-U. You can fill it in.” She added, “Well, the lawmaker who recently heckled the governor sponsored the bill in question so that may explain that coincidence….” Then sounding like the small-town garden club prez who “splains” herself after sharing a scurrilous rumor, Alina remarked, “But, I mean, it’s interesting. I don’t know if I believe it.”

[Carpe Diem reader, actually, the vertical acronym in Swartzenegger’s missive spelled out “I-F-*-*-*-Y-O-U.” N.B. The sponsor of the vetoed legislation was Assemblyman Tom Ammiano who had earlier told the former Mr. Universe to “kiss my gay ass.” Coincidence? You make the call.]

Pussycat Kiran Busts a Move

March 30, 2009

Kiran’s Chetry’s got the rhythm! The comely American Morning co-anchor gave viewers a taste of her saucy, sexy side when she thought the camera wasn’t looking. As the strains of Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop the Music” introduced recessionista Lola Ogunnaike’s Virgin Megastore closing segment,¬† American Morning co-anchor Kiran Chetry placed her hands on her svelte hips and began to jauntily gyrate.

Suddenly sensing she was on air, she stopped. Turning to a subtly swaying Lola, Kiran explained, “Just gonna break out a dance move: I didn’t realize we were on camera. Oops!”

No need to apologize, Kiran. AM could use more of a fun, flirty flair from the femmes to balance its hard news approach. Maybe, AM could give Fox & Friends a real run for the money if AM EP Janelle Rodriguez would “Let the Cats Out.” Mew! Mew! Mew! Mew! Mew!

Kiran: Is This Miniskirt Too Short?

December 20, 2008

After a “recessionista” vid with fashion correspondent Lola Ogunnaike on children’s consignment clothes, American Morning co-anchors Kiran Chetry and John Roberts interviewed Lola. During the segment, Lola had told one girl that she was not sure whether a skirt would fit her: Kiran commented, “Starting early! Is this miniskirt too small? Yes, the answer will always be yes from your parents.”

Sounds like Kiran may have asked that question before. From her parents, the answer may have alway been yes. But now from many of her male AM admirers, the response will assuredly be different for the leggy lovely.

A.M.: Sex & the View

December 12, 2008

What happened this a.m. on American Morning? As a male, I felt like I was watching the View or Sex and the City. Sure, there is that one luscious lady but did I really want to stick around through the whole show. (I did.)

If you did not see AM today, it was anchored by Kiran Chetry and guest host Carol Costello. Kiran looked quite feminine in her modestly opened buttoned-down purple top tempered with a charcoal above-the-knee skirt and closed-toe black heels: However, Carol looked less so attired in a nana’s “Liz Claiborne” mid-knee black dress with stockings and black heels. Attending the femmefest also were conservatively attired business correspondent Christine Romans and fashion lady Lola Ogunnaike. Poor weatherguy Rob Marciano seemed like a lad more than a bit out of his element.

Janelle, all girl is good. However, no need to limit AM entree to the estrogen-laden. Please remember your male viewers as well.
