Juliet: Not a Good Day

June 12, 2009

Another very sad parting for Juliet Huddy! Just this last Tuesday, the comely co-host of the Morning Show with Mike & Juliet, Tweeted that she was “getting really sad about last week of MandJ. [S]tarting to cry for no reason.”* On the very same day she also revealed on KiddShow.com that her five-month-old marriage to Doug Barrett was over.** And, today, the coup de grace: she ended her long-time, on-air partnership with with Mike Jerrick in their last show together.

As Juliet’s dear friend Julie Roginsky aptly observed, “So sad.”*** However, Juliet’s FNC fans have been heartened by her recent guest appearances on Fox & Friends and Red Eye: It appears that Bill Shine, FNC programming veep, is reintroducing her to the cable news network’s audience. Perhaps, she will return as a presence on F&F or F&FW in some capacity; team up with Bill Hemmer on America’s Newsroom (if Megyn Kelly replaces Greta van Susteren)****; or even join the lonely Shepard Smith in Studio B.

Cheer up, Juliet! Remember, “tomorrow is another day.” See you in the mornings?

“All About Megyn”: Fox Redux?

May 25, 2009

Carpe Diem told you, Greta, that you better watch out! Now, the New York Times, apparently, is sounding a similar alarm. I.e., your On the Record “understudy” Megyn Kelly may be your Eve.

According to the NYT, Greta van Susteren’s contract with Fox News is completed next year. Although she regularly beats CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, she lags her more opinionated FNC brethren Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and newcomer Glenn Beck. If Greta is not retained, some have speculated that Beck might be moved from his 5:00 p.m. ET slot to Greta’s prime time one: however, three NYT sources privy to the deliberations indicate that Megyn Kelly would be the prime candidate for the position.

Not surprising. As America’s Newsroom co-anchor, Kelly has exhibited a sharp, witty, and saucy side. On the O’Reilly Factor, she has shown her ability to go head-to-head with FNC’s cable king and often best him. Finally, in her guest host appearances she has manifested that she has the personality, presence, and gravitas to successfully to rule the hour.

Tip of the hat, TVNewser.

Megyn: Greta’s Eve?

Thanks for the “heads up,” J$P.

Greta “T*rd,” Geraldo?

April 29, 2009

Poor Greta van Susteren! On Fox & Friends this morning, Geraldo Rivera dissed her Fox & Friends Sweepstakes contribution and, by extension, her fashion sense. On F&F to promote his eponymous show, Geraldo could not help but give his take when F&F co-anchor Steve Doocy announced yesterday’s F&F Sweepstakes winner and displayed a prize, Greta van Susteren’s Fox News slicker. When Steve opined, “That looks like something Greta would be wearing,” an unimpressed Geraldo interjected, “I would never wear a uniform out to cover a storm: You look like such a t*rd out there–just standing there with a uniform on.”

“Really?” Steve snipped. “Thanks for really supporting our sweepstakes!”

Probably getting an earful from an unamused off-camera producer, Geraldo stammered, “I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, nerdy, nerdy! But if I had my proud Fox microphone.”

A mimosa moment, Geraldo? Or, perhaps, lack thereof?

Megyn: Elite Ailes Bunny

April 9, 2009

America’s Newsroom co-anchor Megyn Kelly is an elite Energizer bunny of Fox News. Like Fox & Friends franchise star and AN guest host Alisyn Camerota and all-purpose guest host and Red Eye fave Patti Ann Brown, Megyn is always game to do Roger Ailes’ bidding. E.g., the ever ready legal lovely was guest host on On the Record with Greta van Susteren  last night and was up and at ’em on AN this morning: Not to mention, she’s subbing for Greta again tonight.

Megyn is definitely earning her stripes at FNC. In addition to co-anchoring AN and guest hosting for Greta, she is a regular on the O’Reilly Factor with Liz Wiehl discussing the legal issues du jour. Not only does the Foxy lady have great legs literally but also figuratively as well.

They on and on and on.

Oscars: Courtney Cut

February 22, 2009

Unfortunately, for Courtney Friel fans, the blonde beauty will not return to the red carpet tonight at the 81st Annual Academy Awards. After an On the Record with Greta van Susteren Oscars report Friday, the FNC correspondent said, “I, unfortunately, won’t be there to cover it. I know there’s [sic] tiny violins playing in the living rooms right now, feeling bad for me.” A sympathetic Greta replied, “I was hoping for that….that you were going to do it.”

Clearly chagrined, Courtney answered, “The economy is affecting us all: Even the corresponding is getting cut down.”  Consolingly, Greta commented, “We’ll have to watch, unfortunately, from our living rooms and miss your commentary: But, Courtney, next year! The economy is coming back so next year!” An appreciative Courtney pumped her fist and, hopefully, asserted, “That’s right!”

No worries, Courtney. According to a Drudge headline, the Oscars this year may be the most boring ever. Chin up!

Megyn: Greta’s Eve?

December 30, 2008

Better watch out, Greta, I’m telling you twice,* Megyn K. may be coming to prime time. FNC’s brightest new star shone brightly last night as she filled in on “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.” The attorney/journalist co-host of America’s Newsroom and regular on the “O’Reilly Factor” covered the Gaza flare-up, the cruise ship passenger disappearance, and the Caylee Anthony case with aplomb.

On FNC, a cable news network known for its distaff appreciation, Greta is a bit of an aesthetic anomaly. Not that the dogged reporter/anchor is unattractive. However, Fox News may be seeking to transform its final prime time by adding a beautiful statuesque blonde a la Paula Zahn while maintaining the legal expertise of Greta.

Is Megyn Greta’s Eve?

Colmes: Ciao!

November 25, 2008

An odd farewell from and to Alan Colmes, the liberal counterpart to Sean Hannity on FNC’s popular political polemics program, Hannity & Colmes. During the show, Alan mentioned with little fanfare that he had an announcement to make and Sean seemed to treat it rather lightly: However, in the final segment, Alan announced that he would be leaving the show after twelve years to continue his radio program (“Alan Colmes Show”), contribute to FNC, and to, perhaps, do occasional specials for FNC. He and Sean affirmed their on-screen, off-screen long-time friendship and traded pleasantries. And then the usual segue to Greta and it was over.

According to TVDecoder, Alan will leave at the end of the year. Fox News may be slowly learning from its mistakes. Its past pathetic partings to Fox & Friends’ E.D. Hill and F&FW’s Kiran Chetry, Page Hopkins, Kelly Wright, Greg Kelly, and Ainsley Earhardt left a sour taste in its faithful fans’ mouths. Hopefully, when he leaves at the end of the year, they will give him a respectful send-off.

Adieu, Alan. You have proved yourself a vociferous and vigorous adversary to Sean. And you do so without being mean spirited. Bravo!
