Apology: Brian’s K.I.S.S.

October 18, 2010

Kilmeade Keeps It Short & Simple. Today Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade apologized for controversial and inaccurate comments that he made about Muslims last Friday. When defending Bill O’Reilly for saying on The View that “Muslims attacked us on on 9/11,” Brian had declared, “They were outraged that someone was saying that there was a reason, there was a certain group of people that attacked us on 9/11. It wasn’t just one person, it was one religion. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.” Not surprisingly, he sustained significant flack for his statement, including being named the “World’s Worst Person” and called an un-American bastard by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann on his Countdown program. This morning, Brian said, “Sorry.”

As his sports segment ended in the first hour (@ 6:37 a.m. ET), Brian tersely stated, On this show on Friday, I was talking about Bill O’Reilly’s appearance on The View and I said this: Not all Muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are Muslims. Well, I misspoke. I don’t believe all terrorists are Muslims. I’m sorry about that if I offended or offended [sic] or hurt anybody’s feelings. But, that’s it.” Segueing immediately to the next segment with barely a pause, Brian continued, “Now, let’s go over to Stuart [Varney, a FBN business news guest].

And, that was it.

Olbermann’s Racial Authority?

July 22, 2010

Believe it or not: Reagan’s Interior Secretary James Watt! Last night on Countdown, incredibly, MSNBC’s top dog Keith Olbermann cited Watt approvingly in his advice for President Obama to “be Obama” and “to stand up” to the “perpetual fraud machine that is Fox News” who “assassinated” Shirley Sherrod with their “complete perversion of journalism” in their “manipulation of reality to make the racist seem benevolent, and to convict the benevolent as racist.”

And just who is this James Watt that Olbermann accords approbation? He is the Reagan Interior Secretary who had to resign after cracking a joke insulting blacks, women, Jews, and the physically challenged. In reference to one of his advisory committees, he callously commented, “‘We have every kind of mixture you can have. I have a black, I have a woman, two Jews and a cripple. And we have talent.”

Yikes! Ironic, though. Perhaps, Olbermann, too, will want to proofread his producer’s copy in the future.

F&F: Doonesbury Dudes

December 18, 2009

Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocy have made the funny papers! Today, during his promo for his Fox News Sunday show on Fox & Friends, Chris Wallace alluded to this distinction when he commended F&F co-anchor Brian for his “shout-out” from Doonsebury. For F&F fans who may have missed Wallace’s oblique reference, Garry Trudeau has spoofed F&F’s coverage of the Tiger Woods saga this week. In so doing, he “featured” Brian Monday through Thursday, and mentioned Steve today. (Links: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.)

The author is surprised that co-host Gretchen Carlson has not yet been given a starring role in the progressive comic strip. Perhaps, Keith Olbermann’s “Second Worst Person in the World” and Jon Stewart’s dumbing-herself-down dame will make her grand entrance next week.

Briggs: Keith Olbermann “Is the Devil”

November 1, 2008

In a discussion of Ben Affleck’s upcoming SNL parody of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann this morning, Fox & Friends co-host Dave Briggs introduced the segment, saying, “Now MSNBC…is the official Barack Obama Network: Keith Olbermann, he’s trumpeting the cause of the left.” When co-host Clayton Morris said, “Keith Olbermann…many people would say he’s a cariacature of himself already, Dave declared, “Keith Olbermann, he never has to dress up at Halloween: He is the devil every day.”* Co-host Alisyn Camerota laughingly replied, “Just spell it right out there, Dave.”

The FNC/MSNBC feud continues.

F&F Co-hosts Assail Olbermann

June 4, 2008

In the latest episode of the continuing conflict between rival networks, FNC and MSNBC, F&F co-hosts assaileded Keith Olbermann in a segment entitled “Olbermann in Top Spot” as a lying, liberal Daily Kos blogger besmirching the reputation of NBC News. While Brian Kilmeade had a rather removed assessment of the MSNBC host of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” Gretchen Carlson and Steve aired their personal beefs with him.

Taking offense at Olbermann’s questioning of her mental acumen, Gretch, the former Miss America snarked, “You know what I really love about Keith Olbermann? The other night he called me “stupid.” She added, “I just find that fascinating: I’d like to know where he went to school.” She then rhetorically asked, “Where did you [Olbermann] graduate from high school? Where were you in your class? And, I’d also like to know why you’re still single. Maybe, some ‘stupid women’ out there didn’t like you! Touche!”

[Poor Gretch! With her feckless coup de grace (“Touche!”), she inadvertently handed him the sword with which to slay her. The term “touche” is a term used to express one’s own loss in a verbal exchange. Perhaps, it was a Freudian slip.]

Piling on, Steve Doocy said that he, too, had a bone to pick with Olbermann. Doocy declared, “He said…that…nobody…at his show ‘Countdown’ has ever attacked anybody’s children. Addressing Olbermann, if her were watching, Doocy asserted, “That is an absolute lie!” Doocy then recounted that Olbermann had named his son Peter Doocy “The World’s Worst Person” as to his presiding role in a F&F forum of Villanova University students discussing the presidential primary candidates. (Cf. “Doocys Dog Obama.) Doocy added, “He attacked my son and made him “The World’s Worst Person” because he is my son so he does attack people’s children…He’s a liar.”

To top it off, Doocy called NBC the “National Barack Channel.” Kilmeade concurred, “It’s absolutely true.” The war of words between the cable news networks continues. Who will win? Perhaps, both if ratings are the measure.
