Sanjay Gupta: Kisses Up to Anderson Cooper?

March 20, 2012

Making up for “diss” on Fox & Friends? Less than a week ago, CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta was asked by F&F co-host Brian Kilmeade whether he would rather “hang out with Anderson Cooper or Wolf Blitzer.” Without a hint of hesitation as to his choice of CNN colleagues, Gupta exclaimed, “Wolfman every single time!” When Brian mischievously persisted, “A lot better [than Anderson Cooper]?, a smiling Sanjay answered, “A lot.”

Apparently, today Sanjay felt that he needed to make up for his “diss” of Anderson, host of his eponymous program, Anderson Cooper 360. Sanjay Tweeted, “Check out the picture of my parents and their new favorite son, @andersoncooper twitpic.com/8zOkpg.” Included was a link to a photo of a smiling Anderson posing with Sanjay’s beautiful mom and Sanjay’s handsome dad.

However, the anchor of the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer was nowhere in sight. Perhaps, the Wolfman was simply “hanging out” with Sanjay on the other side of the lens. Nevertheless, nice move, Sanjay!

Anderson Cooper Unzipped?

November 5, 2009

CNN has done it again: From Paula Zahn’s infamous “zipper” promo to Anderson Cooper’s supposedly “undone zipper.”* Seven years ago, CNN promoted its new Zahn show, American Morning, with an ad in which a male announcer randily remarked, “”Where can you find a morning news anchor who’s provocative, super-smart, oh yeah, and just a little sexy?” As the word “sexy” was emblazoned on the screen, the seeming sound of a zipper being unzipped was heard. Controversy ensued and the ad was pulled after being aired only about a dozen times.

Last night CNN had another phallic moment. This time it was over another blond beauty, Carrie Prejean, the former Miss USA California. Before the segment in question, Cooper teased, “Carrie Prejean caught on tape. Oh, Carrie, Carrie, Carrie. She’s dropped her lawsuit against pageant officials about…her augmentation surgery but only after they dropped a bombshell. We’ll tell you what changed the game.”

Then when AC360 returned, correspondent Erica Hill cattily reported, “The one-time Miss California USA Carrie Prejean…apparently…doesn’t have to worry about paying for her $5200 boob job because Miss USA pageant officials have dropped their lawsuit…She has dropped her lawsuit against the pageant, too. Why?” Feigning incredulity, Cooper queried, “Why?”

Hill answered, “Well, the deal is confidential, Anderson, but a source close to the settlement tells CNN the agreement happened after a sex tape featuring Prejean surfaced.” Cooper playfully exclaimed, “What!” Hill animatedly replied, “Yeah! Yeah! According to TMZ, she’s alone on it.” As Cooper deadpanned, “Really?,” the apparent sound of a salient priapic response (a suddenly released spring) was heard. Raising his eyes, Cooper smiled, shook his head, and said, “Please!”

“All About Megyn”: Fox Redux?

May 25, 2009

Carpe Diem told you, Greta, that you better watch out! Now, the New York Times, apparently, is sounding a similar alarm. I.e., your On the Record “understudy” Megyn Kelly may be your Eve.

According to the NYT, Greta van Susteren’s contract with Fox News is completed next year. Although she regularly beats CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, she lags her more opinionated FNC brethren Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and newcomer Glenn Beck. If Greta is not retained, some have speculated that Beck might be moved from his 5:00 p.m. ET slot to Greta’s prime time one: however, three NYT sources privy to the deliberations indicate that Megyn Kelly would be the prime candidate for the position.

Not surprising. As America’s Newsroom co-anchor, Kelly has exhibited a sharp, witty, and saucy side. On the O’Reilly Factor, she has shown her ability to go head-to-head with FNC’s cable king and often best him. Finally, in her guest host appearances she has manifested that she has the personality, presence, and gravitas to successfully to rule the hour.

Tip of the hat, TVNewser.
