Abby & Pete: Obama Can Run Again! :-)

June 4, 2018

Did Abby Huntsman embarrass her dad? In one of the craziest segments ever, Fox & Friends Weekend co-hosts Abby Huntsman, Pete Hegseth, and Ed Henry seemed utterly oblivious to the 22nd Amendment. It was utterly insane.

In the opening segment of the third hour, Abby remarked, “There’s a new book [“The World as It Is: A Memoir of the Obama White House”] that came out this week, Ben Rhodes who…was on his national security team and he talks about Barack Obama and how he felt about the election and…right after Trump won.” Interjecting, Pete read an excerpt of the book (on screen) which read, “‘What if we were wrong? Maybe we pushed too far,’ Mr. Obama said, ‘Maybe people just want to fall back into their tribe. Sometimes I wonder whether I was 10 or 20 years too early,’ he said.”

Later, Abby remarked, “[Former President Obama]…said ‘[T]en or twenty years too early, that the country wasn’t ready for him. Pete and I were talking about this in the commercial break. He could still run again! Right? Ten years after he left office.” Pete chimed in, “You’re just two consecutive terms: You could take one off and come back.” Abby responded, “He could take on Donald Trump in 2020.” Instinctively, Ed interjected, “Isn’t that something that would be challenged though?”

Wrong, Abby. And, wrong, Pete. And, at least, you had a clue, Ed.

Sad. It was as if none of the three had heard of the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which reads, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Such ignorance–in the true sense of the term–makes any informed viewer cringe. Great F&FW team: But, up your game!

[Author’s aside: Had the three been in Russia and talking about Putin they would have been correct.]
