A.M. Hangover Cures

Hung over from a late night? American Morning co-hosts John Roberts and Kiran Chetry shared their remedies. The wizened wizard of AM pedantically prescribed prevention as the cure whereas the hip hottie answered more aptly that Alka Seltzer did the trick. Of course, a popular Big Easy solution is the “hair of the dog.” Nothing like a bloody Mary to start the next day!

Sounds like Roberts is drinking a lot lately. Drowning his sorrows over his divorce? Maybe his new woman is keeping his company. Maybe that’s why he keeps forgetting his tie?

  2. Kep Says:

Something tells me that Kiran has had quite a bit of experience with the Alka Seltzer over the years, and John Roberts probably has as well. Kiran always talked about going to clubs and stuff in her Fox days. Don’t know if she does as much of that now that she’s got the two kids. She also said she was a smoker but quit. Roberts looks rough lately. The ratings are crappy for AM and his marriage fell apart. Not much to be happy about I guess.

J.D. has been embarrassing himself lately. No tie, stupid, sexual-innuendo based jokes, etc. He’s obviously in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Even the Nitwit seems more mature than he as of late.

  4. Kerry Says:

I don’t get the no tie thing. If you’re going to do that look then get the proper shirts. He does look rough. Too many women will do that to a man.

  5. Kep Says:

Tom, would you be referring to the Nepalese Nitwit? For a while I thought Kiran and John had something going, but I guess not. On a side note, did anyone see Kiran interviewing Christianne Amanpour on the show a couple of days ago? I think they were talking about the President Bush shoe throwing incident in Iraq. Kiran never looks comfortable when she’s talking with Christianne. One has to admit that Amanpour has a wealth of knowledge that Chetry can’t begin to match, and it really shows when the two of them are discussing issues.

  6. Tom B. Says:

Yes Kep, I was referring to Kiran. As to your other observation about Christianne Amanpour, I totally agree with your assessment. The only thing is, Ms. Amanpour has a wealth of knowledge, but somehow she never arrives at the right conclusion.

  7. Kep Says:

Well yes, my compliments of Ms. Amanpour as to her experience and knowledge are certainly not an endorsement of her anti-American world view. But when Kiran tries to ask Amanpour questions, Amanpour ends up having to clarify or correct many of the “facts” contained in Kiran’s questions, which makes Kiran look uninformed and unable to grasp world issues and the gov’ts that are at play. Kiran really isn’t a journalist, but rather a newsreader. Nothing has really changed from her Fox days, except for the fact that she can freely show her social liberalism and she makes a lot more money.

  8. Tom B. Says:

Well said, Kep. I have always got the feeling that Kiran’s goal is to be in front of a camera rather than to be a master of her craft. Having said that, I think she is a decent fit for morning news. She’s found her niche.

  9. Kep Says:

Yes, she is a decent fit for morning news, but how long is CNN going to be satisfied with someone who just wants camera time and isn’t willing to get their hands dirty? CNN is more hard news than any other cable channel. If you ask me, Morning Joe would be a much better format for her. Almost every other anchor at CNN does some other stuff, like special reports, going to breaking news events or doing speaking engagements for colleges, media organizations, etc. If you read the media write-ups on all this stuff, where do you ever see Kiran’s name mentioned? Kiran has been with CNN for almost two years, and she’s maybe traveled to like, what, 3 places in all of that time? No specials, no documentaries? And she’s getting paid $700,000? Roberts has done all of the heavy lifting for AM. No wonder his marriage failed and he looks tired all of the time.

  10. Tom B. Says:

Dunno. Ask Jon Klein. From what I read, CNN really didn’t want her because she wasn’t “hard news quality.” I guess they gambled on her because they thought her popularity from Fox would carry over to CNN. It obviously doesn’t work that way.

  11. Kep Says:

Don’t you think maybe Klein grabbed up Kiran just to play up the fact that she would be working for CNN and not Fox? I mean, Kiran did label CNN as The gold standard when it comes to journalism just minutes after she signed on the dotted line for Klein. Can you imagine the satisfaction that Klein must have felt when the long time Fox anchor dissed her former channel as soon as she got the chance? She’s a publicity piece of sorts, a symbol. She escaped the iron curtain (Klein’s words) and chose CNN.

But yes, if Klein really thought that Fox viewers would change to CNN just to see Kiran, well, he must be the most naive person on earth. You’re right, it doesn’t work that way.

  12. Tom B. Says:

Obviously Roger Ailes is far, far more shrewd than Klein can ever hope to be. I think Klein grabbed Kiran just to stick it in Ailes’ eye, and it didn’t have the desired effect. Remember Paula Zahn? But like I said, Kiran is OK at what she does, but what Klein didn’t realize it was the format and bent, not necessarily the talent. That’s why CNN is condemned to 2nd or 3rd in the ratings. They just don’t realize that half of the country deserves some respect and fair treatment and isn’t receiving it from the MSM.

  13. Boogiewoogee Says:

I’d put my money on Ailes over Klein without any hesitation.

How many people have gone from FNC to elsewhere (namely CNN) and done well? Paula Zahn? No. Kiran Chetry? So far, no.

How many have come to FNC from elsewhere and done at least as well, if not better than before? Greta comes to mind right away, and there are certainly others.

  14. Tom B. Says:

Greta, Bill Hemmer, Major Garrett, Laurie Dhue.

  15. Tom B. Says:

Patti Ann Browne…Linda Vester.. wow, Linda Vester, she was one of the best!
