Today American Morning co-host Kiran Chetry was dubbed the “Daisy Duke of CNN” by erstwhile Dukes of Hazzard star and former U.S. Representative Ben “Cooter” Jones (D-GA). After Kiran’s introduction of Jones in a segment entitled, “Obama’s Blue Collar Appeal,” good ole boy Cooter smiled appreciatively at AM’s luscious lass and said, “Ah, Kiran! The Daisy Duke of CNN!” A bit dubious about his bucolic blandishment, Katmandu’s Kiran chuckled and replied, “Well, that’s a compliment coming from you.”
Well, Kiran, you do have those lovely legs!

Ew. I cringe when old farts inapprorpiately “compliment” younger women. It’s just awkward and embarrassing. On the other hand, I figure most guys wouldn’t mind seeing Kiran in a pair of daisy dukes!

I believe Kiran to be way too skinny to be compared to Daisy Duke.
Catherine Bach was very pretty and shapely and sweet as tea on a summer day in that role. Kiran – for all her talent- does not have that genuine southern charm like CB.
Sorry. Ms. Bach looked MUCH better in a pair of shorts than that skinny, boyish news lady. JMO. (Not that I care to see Kiran in shorts, either).

Kiran doesn’t hold a candle to the original Daisy. Catherine Bach was and still is the best “Daisy” ever. Nothing against Kiran—she’s very beautiful. I think her snub of Ben Jones was a bit snobbish also. JMO

I think the comment he made to Kiran was insulting and demeaning. What news anchor wants to be called “Daisy Duke”?

“What news anchor wants to be called “Daisy Duke”?”
Courtney Friel would probably take it as a compliment. Then again, she’s not really a news anchor.

I have to agree that Catherine Bach had all the right curves, albeit with the help of those safety pins tightening up those shirts. Ms. Chetry is pretty but not in CB’s league.
That comment by Ben Jones sounds unclassy and insulting, but I didn’t see it so any opinion I have is out of context.

Well Chris, I’ll take Cooter’s word for it. After all, he actually worked with Ms. Bach. Boyish- yeah, whatever.
I think Kep does have a point here, though. Luckily Kiran is good-natured with a sense of humor. She wasn’t snobbish at all.

OHMIGOSH! Everyone wants to make everything demeaning and racial and on and on.
It probably was a compliment, since the beautiful Kiran looks nothing like Catherine Bach, but is just a pretty in her own way.
A thank you is all that is needed.

Personally I would have just taken it as a compliment and moved on. It was clearly meant that way. Even serious journalists probably shouldn’t mind being given a compliment every now and again (even from “old farts”). Any guy that lives long enough will eventually be an “old fart”. The comment was certainly no more lecherous than the many posted regarding the Katmandu Kiran’s lovely legs, hard body etc. Lighten up on Cooter—His comment was pretty benign and certainly harmless.

Point taken. I’ll give Cooter a break. You’r right, his comment was harmless. Kiran did take it as a compliment and moved on. However, for the record there is a difference between being an “old fart” and being an older gentleman.

Good point, GRITS. Please consider me “lightened up”.
