Brian: “Beckham’s Boy Toy”?

Fox & Friends continues to portray manbag-toting, “guy-attentive” sportscaster and co-host Brian Kilmeade as a possible B(r)i-an Kilmeade. In its three-part interview with David Beckham, international soccer star, fashion icon, and straight/gay sex symbol, it intimates the blossoming of a “bromance” between the two. Gretchen Carlson, wife of Beckham’s agent, has robustly and relentlessly ribbed Brian about his attention to and affection for Beckham beyond the field. Steve Doocy has rolled his eyes and made a few jaunty jibes himself. Even Chris Wallace has tweaked Brian in a Fox News Sunday promo (kidding that he couldn’t get a Beckham interview), saying, “I’m not David Beckham’s boy toy: some people [i.e., Brian] are.” Taking it in stride, Brian has “blushed” and chuckled.

Even though Brian and Beckham are husbands and dads, it seems that both play off of a bi vibe to increase their popular reach. Putting them together for a much-hyped trio of interviews over two days seems to be a concerted effort to increase ratings by F&F in their target demographics. While F&F may draw more gays, it will probably not lose very many, if any, straights since it is a wink-wink, nod-nod, just-kidding approach.

One seems to hear echoes of a Seinfeld mantra.

I adore Brian…he is the biggest reason I watch F&F. He is so charming, witty and compassionate about so may things. He is a great father and volunteer and has done so much for our troops. I like his sense of humor and as I see it, he keeps the show moving. Now, if he leaves F&F, thats it for me…I won’t watch again.

My favorite, too! I still love him for the time 5+ years ago that he made Janeane Garafolo look like even more of a braying idiot than she is. The best part of that segment? When he interrupted her self-righteous babbling and said “Saddam must LOVE you,” with the perfect sneer of contempt and disgust on his face.

Gayle & Boggiewoogie, Brian is a stellar member of the F&F cast indeed: however, he is having to carry more and more of the workload. FNC needs to add more talent to its roster soon.

  4. boogiewoogee Says:

Well, Jake, I’m also a big fan of Steve Doocy, and I believe he carries just as much of the load as Brian does. Gretchen also carries a big load, but I think her role is different from theirs. They are the “big” personalities, and she’s the one who keeps everything together, from getting too far out of hand.

Don’t disagree about Doocy. As to Gretch, we’ll see if she can step up to the task.

  6. boogiewoogee Says:

Gretchen’s task is a different one than Brian’s and Steve’s. Having a show with three “big personalities” would be very tiresome after a short while.
